This drama takes us back to the historic moment when live news and direct reporting changed forever. During the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, an American news team provides sports coverage. When it turned out that Israeli athletes were being held hostage, they had to quickly switch to live news. It became a live broadcast watched by about 1 billion people worldwide at the time.
Central to the story is Geoff(John Magaro), a young, ambitious TV producer eager to prove himself to his boss, legendary editor-in-chief Roone Arledge(Peter Sarsgaard). Along with German interpreter Marianne(Leonie Benesch) and his mentor Marvin Bader(Ben Chaplin), Geoff must unexpectedly take on live coverage. As perspective keeps shifting, time ticks away, conflicting rumors circulate and the lives of the hostages are at stake, Geoff struggles with difficult decisions and with his own moral compass.
