Olivia ( Sophie Lindner ) and her mother ( Thekla Reuten ) have a stubborn bond: intense, unpredictable, but inseparable. After a heated confrontation, Olivia is removed from her home and ends up in emergency shelter. There she encounters other young people who, like her, carry their wounds with them. Gradually, this new living situation tilts her perspective. Every time she goes home, she sees that her narcissistic mother is not an average parent, but an erratic, destructive influence – a friend you would rather not have. Olivia is faced with an impossible choice: let herself be swallowed up or finally break free.
Vlam is the energetic debut of Daphne Lucker about friendship, complex family ties and daring to let go. Sceanrio is by Rosita Wolkers , who incorporated her own experiences in youth care into the script.
