Inspired by John Ford's American Westerns, Kurisawa created this masterpiece in the early 1950s. At the 1954 Venice Film Festival, it won the Silver Lion (best director). In turn, this epic adventure drama was highly influential, as Clint Eastwood, George Lucas and Sergio Leone, among others, saw it as inspiration for their work.
The Japanese countryside in 1586. A group of bandits plans a raid on a remote village to steal its crops. They are overheard by some villagers, who then decide to seek protection. In a neighboring village, they find the experienced ronin Kambei, who gathers six other warriors. The 7 Samurai settle in the village and prepare defenses with the villagers. When the bandits arrive, they meet an unexpectedly strong resistance. The battle between good and evil ignites.
