The Volkskrant: "...it starts out crazy, and then it derails..."
Florence(Léa Seydoux) is madly in love with David (Louis Garrel), but it is not mutual. He would rather pair her up with his friend Willy. He wants to do this during a lunch date at a remote roadside restaurant. But then Florence turns out to have taken her father Guillaume(Vincent Lindon) with her. As they make their way to the restaurant, the actors playing them keep falling out of character, and the crew is also getting noisy. The film appears to be directed by AI. Will the movie they are shooting ever be finished?
Director Quentin Dupieux has cult status in France. His films are surreal and associative; coloring outside the lines. He brought together a real French star cast for this satire. Warning: don't take everything "au sérieux" 😉
