The true story of the disappearance of former congressman Rubens Paiva during Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. The lives of Rubens Paiva's wife Eunice(Fernanda Torres) and their five children change abruptly, and forever, after the disappearance. Eunice is captured and pressured by the regime to betray her friends and family. When she is released 12 days later, she goes all out to fight against the corrupt regime and for the rights of thousands of disappeared, innocent citizens and their families.
Director Walter Salles is filming again in his native Brazil after a long time. He based the story on the diaries of Ruben's son Marcelo. There, this film drama became an outright box office hit.
