Quirky and very funny is this life story of a timid collector of snails
Director: Adam Elliot - Actors: the voices of Sarah Snook, Nick Cave, Jacki Weaver, among others
Length: 94 minutes - Language: English
- Subtitles: Dutch
We are introduced to Grace Pudel, an introverted woman from Australia. Since the death of her father and separation from her twin brother Gilbert, she has retreated further and further into her shell. She tells her life story to her favorite pet, the snail Sylvia. About her childhood with a clown as a father. About how Grace and her brother are placed with foster families, each on a different side of the country. And how the old village lady Pinky becomes her support and companion. In her eighties, she has a lifetime of adventures etched into the wrinkles of her face: from table tennis with Fidel Castro to a rendezvous with John Denver in a helicopter.
Thus unfolds a beautiful, tragicomic universe filled with warmth, eccentric characters, melancholy and visual humor. Elliot magically connects misery with cheeky humor to create a heartwarming, heartbreaking and hilarious film. Much is based on stories from Elliot's own environment and especially his mother's, which is why he describes the film as a "clayography." Memoir of a Snail is an animated film that will undoubtedly capture your heart as well.
