Joachim (Nicolaj Lie Kaas) and Cæcilie (Sonja Richter) form a young couple in Copenhagen. They have just decided to get married, when Joachim is hit by a car. He survives the accident, but is paralyzed from head to toe. The woman who was driving the car, Marie (Bell pepper Stone), is consumed by guilt and calls her husband Niels (Mads Mikkelsen). He is a doctor at the hospital who agrees to his wife's request to assist the couple. Disowned by a bitter Joachim, Cæcilie seeks solace with Niels, who falls hopelessly in love with the young woman.
Susanne Bier made her contribution to the DOGMA movement in 2002 with this complex and unpolished relationship drama. Romantic and raw, and shot entirely with camera in hand.
