Writer Alex Garland is now a well-known name in the genre of arthouse horror. Together with director Danny Boyle (including Trainspotting), he made a sequel to their modern horror classic 28 Days Later (2002). It portrays a British society plagued by zombies who have become infected by an escaped "rage virus."
Nearly thirty years after that "rage" virus leaked from a biological weapons laboratory, people are still living in a strictly enforced quarantine. A group of survivors have made a living on a small island off the coast. Viia one heavily guarded crossing and only at low tide is the mainland accessible. There, the zombies are fought. The 12-year-old Spike (Alfie Williams) may work with his father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) for the first time on a zombie hunt on the mainland. It becomes a mission that reveals countless secrets and wonders to Alfie.
