Together with his best friend Miyata, Sano(Hiroki Sano) visits a Japanese coastal town. His mood is inward and all the summer fun passes him by. There, five years earlier, Sano met the bubbly Nagi(Nairu Yamamoto), the woman he would later marry. After her sudden death, Sano wants to return to the place where they fell in love. Obsessively, he searches for a red cap she lost there.
Very subdued, director Kohei Igarashi tells a story of mourning, love and letting go. A virtuoso narrative construction connects the present with their meeting five years ago. A connection also between mourning and lust for life, prompting reverie.
