In the summer of 1990, East and West Germany are in the process of merging. When East German citizens are given only six days to exchange their Ostmarken for West German marks, childhood friends and lovers Maren, Robert and Volker decide to make a killing. They know that in an underground tunnel a fortune of almost worthless money is rotting away. They decide to break into it. Together with family, friends and neighbors, they devise a creative plan to convert the money into valuables as quickly as possible and thus outwit the capitalists.
With a filnke dose of GDR nostalgia, Natja Brunckhorst created a light comedy that has a core of true events. With a top trio of actors including the acclaimed Sandra Hüller.
At the pre-premiere of Film Club De Witt on June 30, the audience in a packed auditorium gave this film a very high 4.3 (out of 5) stars!
