Black-Out Presents: Hugh Cornwell
When future music historians compile a list of the influential figures who have changed the modern musical landscape, Hugh Cornwell's name will no doubt figure prominently among them. As leader of The Stranglers, Hugh was the principal songwriter of all their most memorable songs, spanning ten outstanding albums that confirmed Cornwell's status as a unique songwriter and musician. His lyrics for Golden Brown, from the album La Folie, with its many possible interpretations, is a masterpiece in songwriting.
Desinteresse
Desinteresse is a Dutch-language coldwave act consisting of Bart (bass), Joppe (drums) and Sem (vocals/synth/guitar). As a duo, they released their debut album ''Voor Altijd'' (April 2023) and the EP ''Ik Wil Dood Als Ik Het Vergeet'' (November 2023) on cassettes. Since 2024, the band has functioned as a trio. The most recent release involves the 7" single 'Gray Dreams' (August 2024). All releases to date have been released on their own label 'DECADENCE'. They do this with original equipment from the last century, as a form of art, expression and identity.
The Essence
The Essence is an alternative gothic new wave rock/pop band from Rotterdam. Since their formation in 1984, they have developed a unique sound that ranges from powerful songs to dreamy ballads. Their music is sometimes reminiscent of bands like The Cure and Pink Floyd, but is constantly evolving. With energetic and passionate live performances, the band has established a strong live reputation, especially in Europe.
