Dancers explore instinctive responses to threat: fight, flight, freeze or please. How do we react under pressure in a world full of expectations and speed?
Dynamic dance performance about the struggle, tension and adrenaline of everyday life
'INSTINCT' is not just another dance performance, it is an explosion of energy, movement and emotion. Together with a group of adventurous dancers, we dive into the four instinctive responses to threat: fight, flight, freeze or please. What happens when you are under pressure? How do we deal with the pace and expectations of modern society and the high demands we place on ourselves? Do we try to keep up with it all, flee from it, or enter the fray?
Conny Janssen, artistic director of the Rotterdam-based dance company, has invited choreographer Patricia van Deutekom as a partner in crime for this performance. Whereas in her "dance concerts" Van Deutekom shows a preference for a powerful, unpolished but sensitive dance language, Conny Janssen zooms in more on the individual qualities of her dancers, which she then interweaves with her own dance language. The result? A compelling mix of movement, music and storytelling that takes you into the struggle, tension and adrenaline of everyday life.
