The Institute for Nature Conservation Education, IVN for short, was founded in 1960. It grew out of the 'Union against Pollution of Nature and the City' (1939). The aim of this Union was to correct undesirable behavior of visitors in nature reserves through 'nature guards'.
The IVN founders had close relations with this 'Union', but instead of 'correcting' they wanted to 'educate' more.
IVN branches soon sprung up all over the country. Core activities included organizing courses to train nature guides and nature conservation work camps for young people. IVN activities caught on. The 'Institute' experienced strong growth. More and more departments were established and thousands of nature guides were trained.
