Every month the City Library hosts a visit from a children's book author. A writer visit is inspiring and makes reading more fun! So come to the library to meet your favorite writer and/or get new inspiration.
Children's book authors visit Yorick van Goldewijk
Using his books, such as Films That Run Nowhere and The Tree That Was a World, Yorick explains how he comes up with stories, where ideas come from and how to dig them out very carefully like an archaeologist. Children learn that they themselves are actually storytellers every day. And that stories are everywhere.
Using a music quiz with music Yorick created for various games, the children learn that you can tell stories with music, too.
Then Yorick takes the children on a wondrous adventure in space with his book series Billy Extra Plankgas, in which the children together invent an encyclopedia of the universe, with only one limitation: their own imagination. Yorick previews and talks about warp pits, time twists and space witches (with meter-long beards). But he also talks about the speed of a rocket and how long it takes to fly to the nearest star. There's even a super cool prize to be won....
