For example, on one side you see a cage, on the other side a bird. But if you rotate it ... you see a new picture! These turning plates (thaumatropes) were first invented in 1824. But there are also researchers who believe they were made as early as the Stone Age! These are actually the very first precursors of animation and film. By creating a spinning picture yourself, you'll get a glimpse of how multiple pictures in our imaging can take on new meaning together.
Want to participate? Illustrator Laura Surentu (Studio Hoppetee) will show you how to make your own turntable. This joyful workshop is intended primarily for children ages 6 and up. Of course, parents, grandmas and grandpas are welcome too!
