The staff in a household like the Van Gijns' were busy. The windows had to be waxed, the mats beaten and the copper polished. Without electricity or water supply, that's hard work. So they could use some help!
In the museum garden, therefore, there are all kinds of chores to do. You can carry buckets of water with a yoke, wash in a tub or "vacuum" with an old-fashioned roller broom. At the box office, you will receive a stamp card to mark off all the chores. Is your card full? Then you get a tasty water ice cream as a reward!
After this, it's time for the old Dutch games; who will join us for skittles, stick catching or stilt walking? Challenge your (grand)parents to a game of shuffleboard on the hook shuffleboard! And have you ever done the man game?
In the costume attic in the museum house you will find costumes for children and adults. From the sailor suit worn by Simon van Gijn in his portrait to a hoop skirt for young ladies.
Clothing for ages 6 and up (note: limited number of costumes available).
Finally, you can take a look at the museum's toy attic. Here you will find one of the oldest and largest toy collections in the Netherlands! You won't get bored among the dollhouses, steam engines, trains and miniature furniture. In the play corner you can play with an old store, lay a train track or play school.
