On May 10, 2025, saxophonist Mete Erker will perform on the occasion of the release of his third trio album. This brand new work marks an exciting new chapter in his musical journey, together with three young, highly idiosyncratic musicians: Floris Kappeyne (piano), Tijs Klaassen (bass) em Wouter Kühne (drums).
With this trio (which is actually a quartet), Mete Erker comes to the fore as a soloist. He uses every space to fully express his playing: open, direct and fresh from the liver. His warm saxophone tone and raw energy make every performance an intense, personal experience.
Mete Erker is known for his unique approach to music. In the various projects he collaborates on, he always adds a recognizable signature to the soundscape-solistic or subtly interwoven, but always in the service of the music.
The Mete Erker Trio's debut album drew inspiration from medium grooves from the jazz tradition. On the second, live recorded album, the sound shifted to a more extroverted, energetic style. With the new album Trio + 1, Erker continues this development and returns to his original inspiration: the free, expressionist jazz music of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
