Saxophonist Mete Erker arrives on May 10 with a brand new band consisting of three very opinionated musicians: pianist Floris Kappeyne, bassist Tijs Klaassen and drummer Wouter Kühne.
The concert is part of the album release tour "Tilburg Noord," about poetry in the interstices of a 1970s Vinex neighborhood. And about finding your place. 'Tilburg Noord' is the band's debut album, and the first part of a diptych: 'Live in Paradox' will be released in the fall. With both albums Mete Erker goes back to his musical roots: European impressionism in a wonderful mix with the free extrovert jazz music of Albert Ayler and Charlie Haden. All this seen through the eyes of today.
With this trio (which is actually a quartet), Mete Erker comes to the fore as a soloist. He uses every space to fully express his playing: open, direct and fresh from the liver. Mete Erker is known for his unique approach to music. In the various projects in which he collaborates, he always adds a recognizable signature to the sound-solistic or subtly interwoven, but always in the service of the music.
He has played with such international luminaries as Peter Erskine, David Liebman, Philip Glass, Dudu Ndiaye Rose, Russian master pianist Simon Nabatov and South African jazz legend Winston Mankunku.
For the past 20 years, Mete Erker has focused primarily on developing his own music with Artvark Saxophone Quartet, the duo Mete Erker & Jeroen van Vliet, and the Mete Erker Trio + 1.
