On Saturday, May 24, it's time for another edition of NEXTgen, a concert series all about young, promising musical talents. These special nights, organized especially for and by young people, provide a stage where emerging artists can shine, meet new fans and find their way in the music scene.
This time we welcome VLOT: five young and energetic cats from Zwolle who bring their fire, playfulness and passion together in a new jazz fusion formation. With an open and positive vibe, they tell imaginative stories with their music, inspired by the scents and colors of the world.
This is always served up with a good helping of groove and soul. The band draws influences from acts such as Roy Hargrove, Wayne Shorter and The Brecker Brothers. In March 2024, VLOT went into the studio to record their debut album, aiming to push their own musical boundaries, and work on a colorful representation of their art.
Each composition on the record has its own story, which in turn contributes to an overarching coming-of-age trope. The course of the album outlines the innocence and uncertainty of coming of age, and the complicated search for your place in the world. The album will be released on April 3, 2025, and they already have 3 singles out: "Shot in the Dark," "Heroic" and "Hurt. You can listen to these on all streaming services!
