Almost out of nowhere, math teacher Piet van Eeghen won the audience award at the 2022 Leids Cabaret Festival. The Telegraaf praised his delightful stage personality, his virtuoso use of language and inimitable timing. Theaterkrant saw in him an all-round performer: an excellent conferencer, gifted musician, composer and song lyricist.
In his debut performance The Enlightenment Nearby, the audience gets to know Pete through his absurdist songs and conferences laced with subtle irony. He captures the audience with his charm, sharing his bizarre concoctions with the audience and shamelessly scrutinizing his mind.
The song "Levenslied" from this program has been nominated for the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize 2024.
