Sports and art seem far apart, but Pieter Roelofs and Marcel Rözer build unexpected bridges in The Match. Full of sports, art, stories and music.
The game between art and sports
What connects Tadej Pogacar to Johannes Vermeer? In what way does Sifan Hassan resemble Rembrandt? And what does Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi have in common with Vincent van Gogh?
Sports and art seem worlds apart, but sports writer Marcel Rözer and art historian Pieter Roelofs build unexpected bridges in their interactive theater show The Match. This cross-pollination produces surprising, moving and entertaining vistas. For example, for the occasion Rözer creates a mini-opera about Diego Maradona and Roelofs talks about the kinship between images of a mountain stage in the Giro and medieval, religious painting.
In The Match, sports journalist Rözer and art expert Roelofs show through blazing speeches, epic sports moments and close-ups of paintings that sports and art are more alike than meets the eye.
