Sadettin Kırmızıyüz opens his new series "A Kind of Dutchman" with "FIRST MAN," a penetrating solo about how identity carries through from generation to generation.
Humor, vulnerability and keen observations in solo about trauma and dreams
The day after the Lower House elections in 2023, Sadettin is in the kitchen with his 10-year-old son. With the PVV's election victory, he fears that his grandparents will be deported from the country because they are Muslim. Sadettin assures his son, despite his own concerns, "We belong here, even if we have a last name that doesn't sound Dutch. Even though we come from a Muslim family. Whatever happens, we will stay here."
Playwright and master storyteller Sadettin Kırmızıyüz opens his new series "A Kind of Dutchman" with "FIRST MAN," a probing solo about how identity works through from generation to generation. What if your child asks you if his family will be deported from the country? What if you find that not only you, but also the next generation has to wonder: do I belong here? With humor, vulnerability and keen observations, Sadettin explores how the traumas and dreams of one generation affect the next.
