Solo exhibition by Sam Hersbach. The title refers to a curious phenomenon in which deep-sea sharks bite into undersea communications cables; cables that carry virtually all data between continents, quietly hidden beneath the ocean surface. It is an image at once absurd and serious, in which nature and human technology collide in confusion. This tension between humor and gravity runs like a thread through Hersbach's work, which brings together layers of fantasy and reality, digital trash and historical references, painting and installation. In his compositions, figuration and abstraction intersect in a diverse visual language shaped by memes, medieval symbolism, submarine entanglements, community gatherings and imaginary creatures.
Exhibition is available by appointment only.
