Discover Dust to Dust, the solo exhibition of Belgian-Dutch artist Job Smeets. With craftsmanship, humor and symbolism, the artist reflects on the transience of life and the constant movement of time. The exhibition features a wide selection of works, including life-size bronze sculptures, oak objects, silver, Swarovski crystals and original drawings, almost all of which will be on view in the Netherlands for the first time.
Monumental works reflect on today's world. Like Worn (2024), a luxurious version of the normal bench in its most used form, but made of bronze. Or Fountain III (2020), a fountain of a bucket and a faucet, where the drops fall slowly and in a constant rhythm, as if time is slowly working against us. Monkey Business (2013) shows the playful side of Job's work: a bronze monkey covered in crystals, guarding the contents of a gilded box. The work Moonlander (2023-4) was recently named Artwork of the Year 2024.
Job Smeets (1969) grew up in Weert and studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. In 1998, he founded Studio Job. In his work, Smeets combines traditional and modern techniques to create iconic and timeless objects. From bronze sculptures in the Metropolitan Museum in New York to a royal stamp printed forty million times, and from life-size sculptures on Miami Beach to the extraordinary Wunderkammer for Swarovski.
Studio Job is no stranger to the Arts Church-also the iconic facade The Embrace is by their hand. Want to know more about this extraordinary design? Watch the mini-docu we made about it.
