Poetic performance about the disappearance of man and the rise of the machine. Old myths and new rhythms collide in an abrasive and musical fantasy of the future.
Exciting musical theater about ancient myths and new rhythms
The Peat Factory and Touki Delphine present a rousing and merciless creation story, in which the world is tilting. Humanity is disappearing, while machines are advancing. On stage is the Superdrum: a monstrous construction of one hundred drums, played with materials recycled from car wrecks from squeaky windshield wiper motors to ticking switches. The machine sets the rhythm, while actress Jacobien Elffers, as the last human being, tries to pass on what threatens to fade away.
How does our story persist if there is no one left to tell it? 'SUPERDRUM' is a poetic performance about being human and the wisdom of not knowing everything. The two companies juxtapose all kinds of primal stories: from Swahili myths to half-remembered Scandinavian sagas. Thus they thunder through time, from natural selection to artificial evolution, from the first man to the last. How do we preserve the story of humanity?
