'Dance on the Volcano' is a mix of one-man show and exciting musical theater, inspired on the 'Threepenny Opera' of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. Together with the renowned Matangi Quartet takes Sven Ratzke takes you to the Berlin of 1925, a time of ultimate freedom, where the otherwise be does not irritatesbut inspires. He opens the door to a city of extremes and dives into the legendary nightlife full of glamour, jazz, coke, queens of the night, decadent theaters and squalid pubs. Ratzke shows Berlin as you yet not before seen before: sizzling, swinging, hilarious, dangerous, shameless and sexy. You meet icons as Josephine Baker, Bertolt Brecht, Marlene Dietrich and the scandalous nude dancer Anita Berber. Accompanied by the four strings brings Ratzke the music of Weill to to life in exciting new arrangements, of sultry chansons and wild swing to cinematic sounds. Return back to a time that surprisingly many parallels has with the world of today and make a sizzling dance on the volcano.
