Swing State is a swinging four-piece formation from Leiden that puts well-known pop songs in a funky, jazzy jacket. With singer Marjolein Renes as the shining center, the band brings a fresh and grooving repertoire with songs by The Crusaders, Tom Misch, Donny Hathaway, The Eurythmics and Bee Gees, among others.
Singer Marjolein Renes likes to give her own twist to the repertoire with her warm jazz sound. If possible she adds some swinging notes on the flute; an old love she picked up again with Swing State.
Bassist Ruud Maas not only delivers grooving riffs and a melodic foundation, but also sings strong second voices. He plays in various bands and provides a solid groove.
Robert van der Vlist is an enthusiastic drummer who especially looks for the best groove in the songs. He brings his years of experience in jazz and R&B bands to his playing.
Gerard Vos is a passionate guitarist with roots in blues and funk. He loves putting down funky percussion parts and you can wake him up for playing a swinging solo.
