Henderick Speuy, probably born in Brielle, was appointed organist of the Grote and Augustijnenkerk in Dordrecht at the age of 20. At the time, the organ was only played before and after services; congregational singing was not accompanied. Hendrick Speuy did play the organ during the National Synod of Dordrecht in 1618.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of Henderick Speuy's death. Reason to pay extra attention to this city organist (the last one before Cor Ardesch!). Especially for this concert, Cor Ardesch wrote a Fantasy on Psalm 107. The second movement is a bicinium, composed with a nod to the mostly two-part music of Henderick Speuy. Thus a musical encounter takes place between two city organists of Dordrecht.
