Joost van Beek (Dordrecht, 1978) has a broad musical interest, with a preference for lesser-known repertoire and contrasting programs.
In his younger years, Joost received organ lessons in his then hometown of Zwijndrecht from Jan Reedeker and Johan den Hoedt. Later he studied with Cor Ardesch and Ko Zwanenburg. He took master classes with Leo van Doeselaar, Marcel Verheggen and Erwin Wiersinga, among others. He received prizes at several competitions.
As church musician, Joost is active in Utrecht (Wilhelminakerk), Vianen (Grote Kerk) and Wijk bij Duurstede (Grote Kerk). As a substitute, he also provides services in the Nicolaïkerk in Utrecht and the Hooglandse Kerk in Leiden, among others. On a modest scale he gives concerts. Besides in the Netherlands, he has done so in Belgium, Germany, England, Denmark and Norway.
In daily life, Joost works as a freelance copywriter and (final) editor, with clients mainly from the music industry. Since January 2022, he has been editor-in-chief of the magazine De Orgelvriend. He is also a board member of the Stichting Culturele Evenementen Nicolaïkerk Utrecht and of the J.P. Sweelinck Prize Foundation.
