This year marks 125 years since Top Naeff wrote her girls' novel Schoolidyllen. This made her instantly famous. The Platform Sons and Daughters of Dordrecht has initiated an activity. From July 3 to August 7, there will be an exhibition in the City Library Dordrecht. From the children's book museum 't Oude Kinderboek from Lochem several editions from over the years will become available and in addition Pieter van Loon will make his collection of Top Naeff books available for perusal.
Top Naeff (Dordrecht, 1878 - 1953) was a Dutch writer. She was also a translator, playwright and drama critic. All her life she lived in Dordrecht. In 1900 she published her most famous book, Schoolidyllen. She wrote this book largely at her family's home in Lochem. Despite its tragic ending, it is a humorous girls' book with which she immediately established her name and whose success accompanied her for the rest of her life. From 1902 to 1914 she wrote drama reviews in the Dordrechtsche Courant. From 1914 to 1930 she was editor and drama critic at De Groene Amsterdammer. Then (from 1937 to 1940) as literary editor of Elsevier's Geïllustreerd Maandschrift. In 1953 she died of a heart attack, one month after being appointed "honorary citizen of the municipality of Dordrecht.
The exhibition will open on July 3 at 2:30 p.m. with a lecture and city tour by Bart Anholt.
