Music by composers forced to flee their homeland
For decades, people have been fleeing their countries. Hunted, expelled or because their safe home is threatened by war. In "Beyond the Borders," mezzo-soprano, harpist and actress Ekaterina Levental and pianist Frank Peters perform music by composers who were once forced to leave their homeland. Based on the beautiful texts of Sergei Rachmaninov and Nikolay Medtner, among others, who both fled their homeland after the Russian revolution, they talk about longing and loss. Ekaterina Levental, who had to flee herself, toured at home and abroad and won several international awards. In late 2024, Levental and pianist Frank Peters completed a project in which, spread over five CDs, they recorded Medtner's 113 songs.
