A man with a residence permit gets to know the Netherlands. Poetic quest with hilarious quips about living, working, friendships and loves in a new country.
Holland for Beginners: a poetic quest with hilarious confusions of speech
In Thinking of Holland, a man who has just received a residence permit steps out of the gate of the AZC. He knows all the procedures and counters, but he does not yet know the country itself and its inhabitants. He is a writer and determined to stay that way. In an intimate setting, he talks about his journey of discovery. What is it like to live and work in a new country? To build new friendships and loves in a still unfamiliar society? What is this country anyway and who gets to write about it? Sometimes he wraps his experiences in compelling scenes, at other times reading from his own work, in a poetic quest with hilarious confusions of speech.
WHAT WE DO previously made How I Got Talent for Life, together with dozens of people who have experience living in an AZC. Thinking of Holland was made based on conversations with them about their first steps in the Netherlands after they received a residence permit.
