Zimmerman is the soul child of Simon Casier. Originally a bassist with bands like Douglas Firs and especially Balthazar. In 2016, he made his first solo record "The Afterglow" and now he is like again on his third full-length album called "Love songs. Making the most romantic record of the twenty-first century.That was, in a nutshell, the plan Simon Casier had in mind with Love Songs.
The result is an extraordinary record with ten compact, accessible songs that, through the beautiful string arrangements, are more than once reminiscent of the classic pop songs of Burt Bacharach. Timeless, yet modern; light-hearted, but never non-committal; and always unflattering. The latter is an offshoot of Wish You Were Here, the blood-curdling tribute to his late brother that received praise last year. Both records
came about simultaneously, even though in terms of form and content they could hardly be further apart. On Wish You Were Here - one long composition of three quarters of an hour - there was no room for imagery or metaphors: the theme demanded concrete language. Things had to be called by the name. That relieved, and because of that Simon Casier dares to show his most vulnerable side on Love Songs as well. "In the past lyrics didn't interest me much, but now I know that a good lyric can make a song a hundred times better." And look: on this third album he has elevated romance to an art form.
