This month is another cozy time to go out on the town. The holidays are already approaching, just like St. Nicholas! Encourage all athletes during the two running races in the (inner) city: the Drechtstadloop and the Fortius Wantijparkloop. Plus enjoy art and kitsch in the Grote Kerk.
There's all kinds of things on the UITagenda again this month!
On Friday, Nov. 1 (4 p.m. - 8 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 2 (10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), the beautiful Great Church will be the setting for a Christmas brocante. More than 40 exhibitors will fill the church with antique treasures and unique Christmas decorations, from nostalgic angels and old clocks to special baubles and festive tableware. Everything to give the holidays just that little bit extra.
In addition to Dutch brocante, there are also beautiful finds from France, Belgium and England, specially selected for this market. The Grote Kerk, with its rich history from the 11th century, is beautifully lit for an atmospheric ambiance. Admission is €5 per person and children up to 12 years of age may enter for free. A unique opportunity to experience the Christmas atmosphere in a special way!
The DrechtStadLoop celebrated its third anniversary last year. For 16 years now, it has been the running race on Dordrecht's UITagenda. If you participate, you can choose from five and ten kilometers or the half marathon. For the youngest there is the puppy-run and for the older children a youth run of two kilometers. Are you with a company team? Then join in too! Most of the registration fee goes to charity: the Dialysis Department of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital. Dialysis patients are sensitive to cold. During therapy, they sit still for hours. The care staff at the hospital would then like to offer them a heated blanket. An own warming stove (warming cabinet for blankets) is a wish of the department. The hospital receives money only for necessary, medical care. Donations are needed for the welcome perks. The department hopes that many participants will warm up for this cause! Many participants and spectators come back every year, it promises to be another enjoyable (sports) day!
On Saturday, November 16, in the city's beautiful harbor setting, is the start of the coziest children's party of the year. That is when Sinterklaas will arrive in Dordrecht, at noon to be precise! Of course there is a party on the boat with the pleasant Sinterklaas music and all the Pieten. Once the Saint and his entourage are ashore, he will start his route through the city center.
Of course, after his arrival and parade in the city center, the Saint traditionally visits Shopping Center Crabbehof. Here the Pietenband is ready to make it one big party! Will you come and welcome Saint Nicholas? We'll see you then!
