Discover your light on Dordrecht

It will not have escaped your notice that the exhibition 'in the light of Cuyp' is on display in the Dordrecht Museum. Aelbert Cuyp, who actually only became famous after his death, is known for his paintings with special golden light and a serene atmosphere. It is a special technique and definitely worth seeing.

If so many famous artists draw their inspiration from Cuyp's works, we can do the same today!

Contemporary translation

Cuyp has been a source of inspiration for many artists. Think of names like Turner, Gainsborough and Constable. As Dordrecht Marketing & Partners, we do not want to let such a special exhibition pass by unnoticed. We hope that as many people as possible will be inspired by Cuyp and his special golden lights.

Therefore, every week we will invite a different photographer who will make his or her contemporary translation of the exhibition. First of all, the photographer will visit the museum in order to discover Cuyp (and his contemporaries). Then we will ask the photographer to shine his or her "Light on Dordrecht", by taking beautiful pictures in the city with special lighting.

Cuyp reflected

A statue in honour of Aelbert Cuyp stands on the Vriesestraat. There is no self-portrait known of Cuyp and therefore a human statue is not possible. The Aelbert Cuyp statue is made of stainless steel spheres, depicting a man with shoes. All spheres reflect the city of Dordrecht and the sky. Cuyp's work was of course known for light, the skies and the landscapes. Just as the surroundings are reflected in his work, Cuyp is reflected in his sculpture. The designer is Maria Roosen, who designed the sculpture in 2003. The work of art has been on display in the city since 2006.
