Koningsdag in Dordrecht is a celebration for everyone! From the Orange Market in the cozy city center to activities in the neighborhoods to a spectacular fireworks show as a finale. It promises to be a wonderful orange day again!
King's Day begins as early as Wednesday evening, April 26, with a spectacular King's Concert on Statenplein. Step into the world of the "Nile Rodgers Dance Dance Tribute Band," an energetic formation consisting of ten seasoned musicians each inspired by the irresistible R&B, infectious Disco and unmistakable Funk spread by none other than the legendary Mr. Nile Rodgers. The concert is free and runs from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
King's Day is the day to look for second-hand gems. Endless wandering during the Orange Market along all the rugs, tables and stalls looking for that one item. You will pass by toys, clothes, furniture, accessories and much more! The Oranjemarkt is located between the Grotekerksbuurt towards the Visstraat and on the Sarisgang. In the Nieuwstraat, Hofstraat, Vriesestraat and Vrieseplein, residents sell their stuff in front of the door. Tip for families: in the Kloostertuin there is a children's free market.
Of course, the entire city center will be colored orange and there will be lots of other fun activities and things to do. Enjoy a (orange) drink on the terrace and order an (orange) pastry or swing during the orange band show from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the Statenplein. Many cafes and restaurants are also doing something extra for Koningsdag and in the nice Dordt stores you can score orange items. In short: the Dordrecht city center is filled with orange fun on King's Day!
Following tradition, there will again be a spectacular fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. on the Drierivierenpunt to end King's Day with a bang. At the Drierivierenpunt, an impressive fireworks show will be fired from a pontoon by Dutch firework professional. The fireworks show can be seen perfectly from the Groothoofd and the Merwekade!
