When it is cold but dry or when it snows, for many people there is nothing better than taking a winter walk through the city. Along the way you not only enjoy the beautiful (historic) city center, but also atmospheric stores where you can score warm winter clothing as well as delicious winter food.
We are happy to give you tips for a scenic route through the city.
Beautiful route through the city
Put on your walking shoes and start at the Roo Bridge. Walk via the Wolwevershaven over the Damiatebrug and the Groothoofd via the Taankade to the Voorstraat Noord. Tip: for coffee and something tasty, go to HAZEL! In fact, in the historic center on the corner of Voorstaat and Mariënbornstraat is a sweet, green and monumental building. Here you are welcome from Wednesday to Sunday for the finest coffee, breakfast, lunch, vegan sweetness and all your favorite disembodied breads from Jordy's Bakery. Ideal to make a stop during your winter walk, to warm up ánd to eat something tasty! Next, your winter walk will take you via the Hof to the Kloostertuin and through the Kloostertuin via the Dordrechts Museum and the Kunstkerk to the cozy square in front of De Witt. But that's not all!
Cozy stops along the way
Via the Nieuwstraat cross the Voorstraat to the Wijnbrug. After this bridge, walk left onto the Wijnstraat towards the Groenmarkt. Time for another stop! Have lunch, dinner or drinks in the warm winter garden of BRUT Food & Winebar. BRUT was born out of a great passion for wine and that can be seen and tasted at this location. Enjoy the homey atmosphere, hospitality, the city garden, not to mention the finest wine and tasty treats. Once you've warmed up in the cozy establishment, then walk toward Vleeshouwerstraat and Lange IJzeren Brug and turn left to enter Nieuwe Haven toward the Grote Kerk. Walk around the tower of the Grote Kerk, stroll along the Pottenkade and the Grotekerksbuurt - plenty to see there! - to finish at the end point: the Town Hall. Still hungry for a winter finale? Have a bock beer at De Lachende Monnik or a red wine at De Crimp!
Tasty stew
Tasty for during the winter walk: several catering establishments have special winter fare on certain days. For exampleBoer'n Bontje, where you can get stew every Tuesday after you sign up for it. But with a twist, says Jermain Chin Fung Chun. "Boer'n Bontje is a business with mixed cultures, so we thought it would be fun to do something that's just a little bit different. So we came up with a 'prakkie voor 't gemakkie.' When you've been working all day, it's nice to pick up good food and go straight to the table at home." For example, go for mashed potatoes with chicken wings and a corn cob on the side or mashed potatoes with rendang and pak choi. A vega or vegan version is also possible! Every Sunday, Boer'n Bontje announces which delicious stew to reserve.
Scoring warm winter clothing
Is it very cold during your winter walk? Score a warm scarf or hat at one of the many cute stores in town! Like Flo's Label on the Voorstraat for the ladies among us. In the store you can score the nicest warm winter items. For men, check out Jac Hensen on Visstraat. Talking about the latter menswear store: here you can find a lot of nice, warm winter clothing. André Bosch: "You see a lot of coarse materials in all facets. From cotton pants to jackets and suits. This especially in natural earth tones.
