In the coming weeks, the Dordt events calendar is once again full of great events. Enjoy a record fair in the city center or be surprised at the event Culture on the Corner. But is more, such as Wantijlive, Wantijpop and the always crowded Zoomer Wantijrun.
From record fair to Zoomer Wantijrun - lots of activity in Dordt!
Fancy a fun day out? On Saturday, June 7, it's time for Culture on the Corner! That day, amateur art associations from Dordrecht will be given a stage in the (inner) city. There will be performances, workshops and an exhibition; a great way to get acquainted with the many associations in Dordrecht. This cultural festival is open to everyone free of charge. Familiar and less familiar names will perform on two stages on the Scheffersplein and Het Hof - a brand new location - and on indoor stages in the Kunstkerk and Trinitatiskapel. Just a taste of the lineup: Timbres Divers, Swing Express, JD's BigBand, Jong Jubal, Machar, Spotlight Orchestra, Choir Everlasting and the Toonkunst Choir. But there is more: at the City Library visit an exhibition by Studio '76 and if you feel like painting yourself, attend the Multi Painting workshop on Hofstraat. "The beauty of Culture on the Corner is that you see how much talent can be found in Dordrecht," says Peggy Merison. "On every street corner in downtown there is something to hear or see!"
Get ready for Wantij weekend: a musical party in your backyard! On Friday, June 13, Wantijlive kicks off with top Dutch acts: KANE, Guus Meeuwis, Snelle and Hannah Mae. A day later, on Saturday, June 14, it's time for the free music festival Wantijpop. Enjoy a diverse program on the Ames main stage with well-known (including Roxy Dekker) and emerging artists, the tastiest food and drinks from the region and activities for the youngest visitors. On the Popcentrale stage you will discover the coolest regional acts, Secret tunes is there with fine house sounds in a secret area in a relaxed setting on the waterfront and children's garden King Oak not to forget. The latter is extra fun for the kids. There is plenty to do here every year, with the Puppet Theater, a styling chair, carousel and face painting. That will be enjoyment during a jam-packed Wantij weekend!
On Wednesday evening, June 25, the starting gun will sound from the Fortius athletics track for the seventh edition of the Zoomer Wantijrun. During a run of five or ten kilometers or the ten English miles - or 16.1 kilometers - some 1,250 runners will enjoy a beautiful route along river Wantij. It is a sporty, fun event with a cheerful welcome at the finish! There will be a DJ, a walk-through shower, ice cream cart, healthy snacks and drinks. Part of the proceeds of the Zoomer Wantijrun will benefit the organization of the DrechtStadLoop and a local charity every year. This year the proceeds will go to Helianthus, center for living with and after cancer. Zoomer Makelaardij is the driving force behind this Dordrecht event, which is partly why the organization always chooses a date close to the start of summer. Not for nothing is it almost always beautiful weather during the event! Want to participate? Register on time, because last year the run sold out! Of course, you can also attend the event as a supporter or volunteer.

The love of music shines through at the Record Fair that takes place monthly at Statenplein. Exhibitors from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany offer all kinds of CDs, singles, LPs and posters. Of old artists, but also of young artists who release their songs on an LP. "Dordrecht is a real music city, so a lot of people always come to the Record Fair," says Wilco de Bruin. "It has become a tradition in Dordrecht! Also among the younger audience - we attract a young, hip crowd these days. We started with 20 stalls and now we're almost double that. You can find bargains as well as collectors' items." For music lovers, by music lovers: that is the credo of the Record Fair.
