Rustic yoga spot in heart of port area

Even when Toyah Wayers herself took yoga classes at this place, she noticed that it was a special location. After going on a yoga retreat in Ibiza with previous owner and doing yoga teacher training, she started teaching mindful activities in nature with Birdfulness. Toyah wanted to do that year-round, so she gave yoga classes at different locations around town. Those soon filled up, so Toyah sought a place of her own. ,,That location on the Binnen Walevest where I taught myself, stayed in my mind. At one point I was able to go there and that was an opportunity I had been dreaming of for years. Within six weeks I transformed the building into a beautiful new studio, a warm nest. A place to nest, to check out, to be." Toyah teaches three different yoga classes there with another teacher: mindful yoga, yin yoga & sound healing and mindful power yoga. She also organizes all kinds of specials and ceremonies, and has workshops coming up. Starting in late October, she will also add 1-on-1 sound healing with singing bowls to her offerings. "I really enjoy being an entrepreneur! I can put my creativity into it and get a lot of energy from it. I also like the fact that I am in the middle of the historic center with my studio - which others can also rent - but that it is an oasis of tranquility."

Yes, another candy store downtown

Mandy van der Zande already had candy stores on Dam Square and in Sliedrecht and was saddened that there was no longer a candy store at all in downtown Dordrecht. She did not like the idea that you could no longer scoop up candy there. So it was time to open a candy store in the center, SoZoet! A building was quickly found and now you can once again scoop up candy to your heart's content in the heart of the city. Old Dutch candy, candy of Asian origin, American candy: you will find everything. From straw soldiers to black and white and much more. "People really like the fact that there is a candy store downtown again," notes Mandy. "Especially older people like that they can come and get some, like honeycombs and cough drops. It's a very approachable store. Many tourists also come, obviously mostly for the Old Dutch candy. They often make selfies at SoZoet. Many people also come for the Bubble Tea, especially children. They like the fact that they can come and get this popular drink for a small price."

From curry to chicken at Biryani House

Fancy a curry, roti or chicken? That hits the spot - at Biryani House you will find a restaurant that has authentic Indian and Pakistani dishes on its menu. Biryani House is known for its signature Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken and a diverse range of halal dishes. What's special is that the restaurant is divided into two: you choose to eat buffet or a la carte. The buffet seats 90 guests and the a la carte section can welcome 40 visitors. The nice thing is that the restaurant is decorated with carvings, blossoms and statues.

Magical and imaginative treasures

At Stop 13, you enter a Valhalla of magic. The trading card game store is best described as "a nerdy merchandise store. And that is not saying too much, because you will find all kinds of games and playing cards that are played and collected. But also items from Harry Potter including clothing. Of all the card games, Stop 13 has the merchandise. It was time to start a store, says Suzanne Boeter. "In the basement apartment of my partner Jannes and me we had all kinds of cards, because he had been playing with them for a long time. We were both looking for another challenge and thought it would be fun to do a merchandise store on the side. But it got so busy that we moved into our own building and now we have big plans that are coming true: the big building we are moving into will have a catering area that will include lemonades with glitter, there will be fixed tables for playing warhammer battles and cards. There will also be space to play dungeons and dragons. It will be much more than just a store!"

Exhibition LIBERTE! in Dordrecht Museum

The exhibition 'LIBERTE! Ary Scheffer & French Romanticism' takes visitors to nineteenth-century Paris, a time of political upheaval and cultural blossoming. French artists such as Eugène Delacroix and Théodore Géricault deployed their brushes as weapons or climbed the barricades themselves. So did Ary Scheffer (1795-1858), a native of Dordrecht, who quickly became one of the most famous painters of the French capital. Themes that are still topical today, such as the power of the citizen and the power of campaigning, are echoed for the first time in metre-sized paintings during French Romanticism. Art becomes more personal, full of emotion and socially engaged. There is also a renewed interest in history, a love of literature and music, and an appreciation for the landscape. It is the first time in history that so many paintings from French Romanticism are together in the Netherlands. An impressive number of works by Scheffer - the Dordrecht Museum has the largest number worldwide - together with magnificent paintings by Géricault, Ingres and Delacroix, among others, tell the story of this compelling period of French history. For the first time we can place the Dutch Ary Scheffer in the context of his French contemporaries, which also allows you to understand his work much better. That makes this exhibition unique!
