A new beautiful spring is smiling upon us. Who doesn't feel like sitting on a nice terrace, a new colourful wardrobe, a glamorous summer haircut, a cool event or a deliciousmeal? Exactly! It's all possible in Dordrecht's cosy inner city, including at these new initiatives by bold and innovative Dordrecht entrepreneurs.
All this news makes it already a wonderful start of spring!
Dordrecht has one more barbershop. Since recently, all gentlemen can visit Edwin Stok's Central Barbershop. Short cuts, longer hair, classic, modern or beard trimming, the versatile Dordrecht born and bred has it all. "The customer is really central for me, emphasises the young entrepreneur. "Of course I go for the perfect cut, but the atmosphere is at least as important. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere, so that you can walk out of the door with a fresh look and a smile. By now quite a few gentlemen have found their way to the brand new barbershop, but new customers are still very welcome. Central Barbershop is open from Tuesday to Saturday, also after office hours.
Good news for men and women who love beautiful clothes. After almost nine years Deborah Verheggen, owner of Rockin' Items, opened a second shop just across the street. The collection of her new boutique Verte complements Rockin' Items and (that is the good news, especially for men) contains both women's and men's clothes. "In recent years at Rockin' Items we were often asked if we also sold men's clothing. The answer was always no, we had no room for it. With Verte it is now possible. For the men's collection I went looking for brands that are not yet available in Dordrecht. These are for example Won Hundred, American Vintage and Selected Homme. As for the name Verte: vert is green in French. We are 95% sustainable. And when I am at Rockin' Items I see in the distance, in a beautiful monumental building in this nice part of Voorstraat, Verte."
Snelle and his Sweet Boys Band, Meau, Duncan Lawrence. Just three of the top performers who will give a smashing performance during the 25th edition of Wantijpop, this year on Saturday 18 June. And that is not all. Organiser BOD Events is pulling out all the stops to make this anniversary edition of the best free festival in Dordrecht a mega success. The best national acts together with local stars, good food and drink, secret tunes and above all lots of fun make Wantijpop a popular event for young and old. According to Magchiel Koekkoek, one of the three owners of the events agency, it is the combination that makes the festival so special. "At Wantijpop, you experience Dordrecht at its best. A nice wide range of music, a great atmosphere and a beautiful location. It is the ideal place to meet up with friends or to catch up with old acquaintances. It is great that this is already the 25th time, but it is even nicer that it can happen again and that everyone can be there. It is going to be a lot of fun. We have some catching up to do, after all."
Francis Verschoor, owner of Francis Kookt, has rebuilt her business. After a year of good results with her lunchroom, Corona threw a spanner in the works. Because of the forced closure, Francis often worked at people's homes as a private cook. And that worked out surprisingly well. Francis Kookt is a new step full of new energy. The seats inside have made way for small bars and cupboards with fresh products of local entrepreneurs (for example oyster mushrooms of the Kwekersgilde and coffee beans of the Stadsbranderij). In addition, she offers a new takeaway menu every week, many vegetarian and with fresh products from the market. By appointment, a small group can have a private dinner in the room. And what about the delicious coffee and homemade sweet treats? "I still have them," Francis assures us. "Vegan, gluten-free, everyone is welcome to take away or drink it here. In good weather, the patio chairs are outside." Francis Kookt is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
