Stories of Dordrecht (No. 15): The House of Orange-Nassau

The fifteenth volume in the series Verhalen van Dordrecht 'Dordrecht and the House of Orange-Nassau' is about the bond between the Oranges and the city of Dordrecht. Throughout the centuries, the Oranges have been closely associated with the history of the Netherlands. So too with the history of the city of Dordrecht. Was it not in Dordrecht that, in 1572, the States of Holland decided to oppose Spanish rule and proclaimed Prince William of Orange stadholder of Holland? From that time on, stadholders, princes, kings and queens of Orange-Nassau showed interest in Dordrecht, until today. Except for King William I, they all visited Dordrecht. Author Ton Molendijk tells about these visits and the festivities surrounding the House of Orange-Nassau.
