Martijn Fischer graduated as an actor from the Utrecht School of the Arts in 1997. During his studies, he earned his living by singing in a party band. After his studies, he worked at theater companies such as the RO theater and the Nationaal Toneel with directors such as Matthijs Rümke, Peter de Baan and Pieter Kramer.
For example, he can be seen alongside Tjitske Reidinga, Loes Luca and Peter Blok in the plays De Ingebeelde Zieke and Augustus Oklahoma of the Utrecht Games. He has also appeared on stage with the company De Verleiders with the play Slikken en Stikken. Having played to some 50 almost universally sold-out auditoriums in the country, they also performed in theater Carré for 14 days to a sold-out house.
On television and the silver screen, Martijn has appeared in Baantjer, Afblijven!, Gooische Vrouwen and Vrijland, among others. In 2013, he sang at the coronation on the Museumplein and performed at the Ziggo Dome during four sold-out concerts Holland zingt Hazes. Martijn also played André Hazes in the Joop van de Ende musical Hij Gelooft In Mij. The successful musical can be seen in the Amsterdam De la Mar Theater for over 2 years. For this role he receives the John Kraaijkamp Musical Award for best male lead in 2013. Martijn is also awarded a Golden Calf for his role as Andre Hazes in the film Bloed Zweet en Tranen.
In recent times you have seen Martijn in TV series such as Fighter's Heart and Petticoat and a whole list of movies including; Skirt Day, Our Boys, Dikkertje Dap, Men from Mars and Our Boy in Miami. He also played the role of Jesus in the Passion. Martijn can also be seen in series such as The Slut of 6 VWO and Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden.
Martijn played the role of André Hazes in the reprise of the musical Hij Gelooft In Mij from January to August 2022. This show could be admired in theaters throughout the Netherlands. In the fall of 2022, Martijn played the clubs in the Netherlands with his band during his club tour Martijn Fischer Zingt Hits van Hazes.
FISCHER: "As an afterthought in a family of four children, I always had to stand on the table and playback the Osmonds that my sisters were fans of and reenact TV commercials. That was fun and a pleasant kind of attention. When I was in high school I was quite a shy little guy. We had drama class and I found that helped get over certain shyness and eventually that became one of my favorite subjects. Still, I was only 25 when I really went to drama school, I had first done all kinds of other things that came my way like playing drums in bands and hauling bricks in construction for the real professionals. In retrospect, I'm very glad I chose this profession, it's brought me a lot of good things; I get to meet nice places and I meet special people. I'm a lucky bastard!"
