Been sitting inside a lot this winter? Then now is the time to get out and about! How about Lepeltje Lepeltje or Koningsdag? If you're an art and antiques lover, browse around during one of the Art and Antiques Markets that are on the events calendar in April and May.
From Koningsdag to Lepeltje Lepeltje - events galore!
Are you looking for just that one antique table? Or a special cup and saucer? Or a beautiful painting or other work of art? Then come to the Art and Antiques Market on the Nieuwkerksplein! Every first Sunday of the month through October (except July). The April 7 edition kicks off a spring and summer full of Art and Antiques Markets, or six editions. The market consists of stalls full of art and antiques and also features an open stage with live music every afternoon. Local talent shows off their musical skills here, while you enjoy a bite to eat and a drink. Also fun: during the Art and Antique Market, most art, antique and curio shops will be open. The art and antiques event is actually a set recipe, says organizer Sylvia Landa. "Never change a winning team! Every year it gets more fun, full and cozy so we will notice that again this year."
For those who want to know everything about bees, their honey or beekeeping: on Saturday, April 20, the Bee and Honey Market will be on Beverwijcksplein in downtown Dordrecht. Anyone interested is welcome to come and visit, buy something or just learn more. In addition to honey and beekeeping items, there is plenty to experience. There will be various demonstrations of old crafts, there will be a demonstration hive and it will be possible to see how the bees work in the hive and the "washing machine" will be demonstrated. There are nature societies present, Mill Kyck over den Dyck, Desembrood van Koen and more. For the kids there will be the fantastic stall of Loesje and Lientje. Frietje2go will take care of their internal needs.
For ten years, April 27 has been red - or orange! - circled on the calendar: time for Koningsdag! In the center of Dordrecht there is plenty to do on this day. Or actually before: on the evening before King's Day, Friday, April 26, there is a King's Concert on the Statenplein with the Nile Rodgers Tribute Band. On King's Day, Jubal will perform a serenade at Het Gastenhuis on the Vest. Then Jubal will continue to the Town Hall Square, for the aubade. Quite a spectacle! One of the other attractions is the King's Market, with 140 stalls. This meanders from the Grotekerksbuurt to the Statenplein. At the latter location there is an Orange Band Show with large bands from all over the Netherlands. Also quite a happening! Furthermore, there will be a King's Brunch in the Dordrecht Museum for a hundred Dordrecht guests and the conclusion of King's Day will take place in the evening on the Drierivierenpunt with a large fireworks show. Kings Day will also be celebrated outside the center, with all kinds of activities for children, in eight neighborhoods. Each neighborhood will thus have a fun King's Day!
