There are plenty of events in town again in November. So come especially to watch, enjoy or cheer on St. Nicholas and runners.
DrechtStadLoop - November 6
Around two thousand sports enthusiasts are once again expected at the start of the DrechtStadLoop. The fourteenth edition of this sporting event will once again lead the runners through the historic streets of Dordrecht. 'The start and finish are on the Statenplein,' says Cor van der Steen, chairman of the organization. 'The half marathon, is the main number and the participants in this do almost every district of Dordrecht and even a piece of Nieuwe Biesbosch. Surely that is the charm of this run.' There are runs for big and small, long and short distances. 'It really is a sporting event for the whole family.'
Registration is available at www.drechtstadloop.nl. Proceeds from the event will benefit research on lung covid at Albert Schweitzer Hospital.
Entry of St. Nicholas - Nov. 12
See yonder comes the steamboat from Spain again in Dordrecht. And on Saturday, November 12. That day, young and old can welcome the Saint and his entourage in the city center. This year the steamer will not moor at the Wolwevershaven, but at the Maartensgat at the foot of the Grote Kerk. 'It is becoming increasingly difficult to moor in the Wolwevershaven because of the many houseboats and the limited draught,' says Chris Hoogerwaard of the Stichting Intocht Sint Nicolaas Dordrecht. The very best experience of the arrival is in the garden of the Grote Kerk where huge LED screens show the arrival. After that it will be one big party with surprising elements that will amaze the little faces. A party as of old! After the party, the "motley procession" continues its entry through the streets of the historic city center.
Fortius Wantijloop run - Nov. 26
A run through the beautiful Wantijpark is always good, especially in autumn. On Saturday, November 26, a few hundred runners will again appear at the start of one of the oldest running races in Dordrecht. 'There are various distances, from 1 or 2 kilometers for children to 5 or 10 kilometers from 14 years or older,' says Maarten Vogelezang of the organization. 'The beauty of this run is that all distances go all the way through the park. And the park is at its most beautiful then, if you ask me, with all those beautiful autumn colors.' Registration for the running event can be done in advance at www.inschrijven.nl or on the day itself at the Wantijpavilion.
