Café 'de Lachende Monnik' welcomes you is an authentic beer and gin café. The café has an extensive collection of Trappist beers and all the fine things made in various breweries and distilleries.
With a view of the church and, around the corner, Dolhuisstraat, where the Cellebroedersklooster (1463) used to be located, the idea was soon born to turn it into a café where Trappist beers and abbey beers would play an important role.
Atmospheric tables and pews fill the space and on the tap wall you can choose from Chimay, Westmalle, La Trappe and Zundert, among others, supplemented by abbey beers such as Ename and Ciney and, with a nod to faith, a Duvel 666. But lovers of other beer styles are also welcome at the 17 taps. Lupulus, Kasteel, Texel's and Noordt will therefore regularly flow from the barrel. Lover of other Trappist beers? Orval, Rochefort, Spencer, Tynt Meadow, Engelszell and Tre Fontane are available by the bottle.
Even for non-beer lovers there is plenty of choice, therefore also good wine, beautiful jenevers and whisk(e)y and also a tasty soft drink. For the soft drinks we have chosen Fritz, which stands for quality and durability!
It is not a shots and/or party café but a café where love for the product comes first!
