For five years now, writer, musician and columnist Sander Donkers has published a piece of no more than 150 words on the front page of the Volkskrant newspaper three times a week. He is admired by countless readers, fellow columnists and writers, praised for his finesse, style and ability to search for meaning in both the mundane and the global, in an attempt to better understand life and the world.
In June 2023, he published his collection of columns, "Furthermore ok deny everything. Whether it's about cats, daughters, soccer or about Baudet, corona protests and asylum seekers, he always seeks to connect, to bridge a gap.
Sander Donkers invites for this Encounter writer, columnist, blogger and culinary reviewer Gilles van der Loo. His 2023 novel "Café Dorian" was nominated for the Libris Literature Prize. Donkers is a fan: 'The form, the style, the kind of person the writer must be when he writes a book like this. Truly a kindred spirit. Gilles van der Loo graduated as a clinical psychologist, worked for 20 years in every imaginable position in Amsterdam's hospitality industry and made his debut as a literary writer in 2010. Since then, he has published several titles with Uitgeverij Van Oorschot, writes fiction and non-fiction for magazines and newspapers, and for years was editor of literary magazine Tirade, for which he still blogs weekly.
