Wantijpop is always a party, but this year it is extra festive! Because it is the 25th edition of this free Dordrecht music festival. The festival will treat you to musical performances by well-known artists such as Duncan Laurence, Snelle and Goldband in the cosy green Wantijpark. There are fun activities for the kids and there is regional musical talent. A party for young and old. So book 18 June in your diary!
The place to connect and be together.
The Wantijpop organisation is certainly going to do just that. "This year, we have made a special effort with the line-up", says Magchiel Koekoek of BOD Events. "Duncan Laurence is a truly international artist and the fact that we managed to get him to Wantijpop is something I find very unique." Quick is guaranteed to put a smile on the faces of both young and older audiences. "He has a very natural way of interacting with the audience. That performance is going to be great fun anyway. The diversity of performances throughout the day is what makes this festival so unique and fun for everyone."
The first edition of the Dordrecht music festival was in 1995 in the beautiful green park. "At the time, it was an initiative by the municipality to put Dordrecht on the map as the cultural capital of South Holland." In 2011, the plug was pulled on the festival, BOD Events has since done the honours. "As Dordrecht-based organisation, we found it a great pity that such a large event would have to stop. We went on the road and sounded out the public and entrepreneurs to see if they felt the same way. It turned out that the support for the festival was huge. So we came up with a plan to keep it going.
This is how Wantijpop came into being as we now know it and cannot and do not want to miss it on Dordt's cultural agenda. "It really is a party for young and old. The place where you meet all your old friends; classmates, teammates. Where you can enjoy good music together in a beautiful park, whatever genre you like. It is a place of connection, of being together and that is what many people have missed in the past two years.
Wantijpop starts Saturday 18 June at 13:00 in the Wantijpark, the programme lasts until 23:00. Admission is free. The complete line-up of artists, all activities and an overview of participating foodtrucks and caterers can be found on wantijpop.nl.
