Be amazed during Heritage Days

Look around at places you would not normally visit: You can do this on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September during the Open Monument Days in Dordrecht. More than seventy monuments can be visited and there are also all kinds of outdoor activities.

It will be a true outdoor party!

Living heritage theme in 2023

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage was concluded and we are celebrating by linking the theme "Living Heritage" to Open Monument Days. Intangible heritage - or living heritage - can be described as cultural practices, traditions and crafts that people have inherited from home, which they have made their own and which they in turn wish to pass on. This intangible heritage is constantly evolving and changing with the times. So this year the monuments are bursting at the seams with vibrancy!

From pocket walk to hospitality with a story

Organizer Dordrecht Marketing & Partners ties in with this year's theme. Molen Kyck over den Dyck, Huis Van Gijn, Nationaal Park de Biesbosch: all beautiful monuments, which fit perfectly within the rural theme. There are many special activities during the beloved national weekend. For example, you can do the pocket walk "Living Heritage" that takes you past special objects or places that have left a footprint in the city. Furthermore, you can opt for a walk by the 'Tree Knights,' past trees with a story. And after the success of last year, you can also join the 'Horeca Walk'. Because did you know that many catering establishments in the historic center are located in beautiful monumental buildings? You can also take advantage of a special deal: during your visit to one of the establishments with a story, you can enjoy a snack and a drink for a nice price.

Enjoying music & more

During these days you can also immerse yourself in the scintillating program of musical monuments. At several locations you can enjoy quality music and at a monument too. The Hof van Nederland, for example, is one of the participants with a unique music program that you do not want to miss. The Bach Festival is also present this year; they will perform on both days at the Dordrecht Museum. And would you like to take a tour with the steam tugboat Pieter Boele? Also possible! That way, you can admire the skyline of Dordrecht in a very special way.

For the kids: 6 Living Doors

The very young have also been thought of. Super fun for children is the children's treasure hunt, for which artist Anouk Klarenbeek has specially created six adorable miniature doors. Children search for these using a map and discover special stories behind the doors. Success guaranteed! Whatever activity or monument visit you choose: you will find everything in the special program leaflet, available from VVV Dordrecht ( Spuiboulevard 99).
