With the exhibition "Spring in autumn," Wencke highlights the transformations in nature that are increasingly noticeable through the seasons. It creates different feelings of confusion but also ingenuity, survival skills and awe for all that nature brings and gives us.Her paintings show the human figure in relation to nature in this special time.
Wencke Vinks (b. 1975) is a Dutch painter, born in Tilburg. At a young age it was already clear to her which path she would take. To develop her creative skills, she studied at SintLucas and later at the Design Academy (dept. man and environment) in Eindhoven. From the age of 20, in addition to her work as an art director, she began to devote herself to painting. Over the years, the deep-rooted love for painting increasingly took over. She began her painting career in 2017 and gained national fame with the chosen portrait of Hadewych Minis in the TV program Sterren op het doek and hung with her modern version of The Reading Woman in the Rijksmuseum. She currently lives and works in Doesburg and in Musso (northern Italy).
Her artistic challenge is simplification, eliminating the unnecessary so that the necessary can speak. Wencke approaches her portraits and landscapes with an atmospheric sensibility that combines form, tone, line and color. Important elements to her paintings are technical skill, creative freedom and emotional truth. The goal is to create work in which all these elements come together harmoniously to move the viewer. Wencke typically employs a fairly subdued color palette supported by a few chromatic accent colors to depict tranquility but also wonder in nature. She works in both small and large sizes.
