Shadow colors

Dubbelmonde Street 1

Remco van Hoek

The tree stands in front of the wall and the sun shines on its beautiful leaves. The shadows of the tree turn into seven colors on the wall. These colors symbolize the seven-year life cycle.

Cross Crayenstein Street and follow bike path to the right. Further on, cross again and then follow bike path as before.

Water tower Connection in Time - mural

Mural Hotel the Water Tower

Kromme Zandweg 80

To admire the more than 20-meter-high mural in The Water Tower, you don't have to be a hotel or restaurant guest. It is a municipal monument with a viewing balcony on the 7th floor accessible to everyone. Here you can see the impact water has had on the formation of Dordrecht. The water flows from top to bottom (the water tower has more than 7 floors).
On 3 floors there is a map of the island from a period from the past to the present. The water flows along it and through it like a root system, part of the cycle, continuing to the next period.

Return to intersection and turn left onto Dubbelsteynlaan-Oost, follow and after parking Damplein turn left. On Damplein you will find restaurants, stores and an ice cream parlor.

Peek into the past

Dubbelsteyn Avenue West 50

Inge Modderkolk

The past with a black and white painting of Dubbelsteynlaan West around 1903 showing a lorrenboer. This is someone who bought up old clothes and resold them to make paper or polishing cotton. In the foreground the future in color with the children Stan (age 3) and Estella (age 7) from Dubbeldam with great-grandparents in De Gravenhorst.

Follow Dubbelsteynlaan-West to T-junction and turn right into bike path Dordwijklaan 1.

Color explosion in bicycle tunnel

After the intersection you will see a bicycle tunnel, look around. The route does not go into the tunnel, but turn left.

The walls of this bike tunnel have been taken in hand by various graffity artists and transformed into a colorful fantasy world.

Crabbehof Juno & Anouk Brand-street art and poetry

Nothing looks like here

Donker Street 29

Juno and Anouk Brand

Former city poet Juno wrote this poem as part of a series on three senses: seeing, feeling and tasting. The sense of "seeing" is represented here with the line of poetry, "Nowhere looks like here, shall we share everything together? The longer you keep looking, the more you will care.' The graffiti on the shutters was done by street art artist Anouk Brand, almost graduated from the Grafisch Lyceum in Rotterdam.

Luka & the deer from the Biesbosch

Donker Street 29

Ricardo Zwol

The idea of the deer and trees came from Dordrecht high school student Iris Kadijk (2004) who, as a farmer's daughter, has De Biesbosch as her backyard, often spots deer and loves to draw. Barendrecht artist Ricardo van Zwol (1975) worked out the idea with a prominent role for boy across the street Luka Mrvos (2011) in the design. Van Zwol: "Painting portraits, nature and sunsets are really my thing. Working with layers, circles and staggered lines give my murals movement and layering."

Follow road, turn right onto Zuidendijk, at t-junction (white blocks) turn left, turn right and cross road, turn left again on top of Zuidendijk continue cycling. Turn right onto Frans Lebretlaan, left onto Viottakade, follow traffic circle 3/4, in front of gas station turn right, cycle out Weeskinderdijk, cross road 2x and turn right following bike path along river.

Wall collage

Kilwijkhof 6

Not a painting but a wall collage. A public work by many people from Dordrecht and it celebrates and commemorates freedom. Inspiration for the artwork is a by-flute poem. During the celebration of the birth of the Netherlands, visitors to the National Museum of Education wrote a through-listening poem on the theme of freedom. The words from this poem inspired this wall collage.
